Convenient Integration: Many users have found IPAM's integration with the SolarWinds suite to be convenient for tracking multiple sites and subnets. This feature has been praised by several reviewers as it allows them to easily manage their IP address allocation and DNS updates in one centralized solution.

Efficient IP Management: The ability of IPAM to manage IP addresses and update DNS as soon as a device is discovered has been highly valued by users. This functionality has proven useful for managing IP address availability and ensuring accurate DNS updates, according to numerous reviewers.

Effective Capacity Planning: Users appreciate IPAM's ability to reserve and comment on IP addresses for effective IP address allocation and capacity planning. Several reviewers have noted that this feature helps them allocate IPs efficiently, avoid conflicts, and plan for future network expansion.

Slow, Clunky Web Interface: Many users have expressed frustration with the slow, clunky web interface of SolarWinds IP Address Manager. Users find it difficult to navigate and perform tasks efficiently, impacting their overall experience with the software.

Difficult Initial Setup: Several reviewers have reported that the initial setup of the software is not user-friendly and requires a learning curve. This can be challenging for new users who are unfamiliar with the Orion platform.

Limited Options for Organizing Devices: Users have complained about the limited options for organizing devices in SolarWinds IP Address Manager. They feel that there is a lack of flexibility in the licensing tiers and find it difficult to effectively organize their devices as per their requirements.

Users commonly recommend the following regarding the software for managing IP addresses:

  1. Trying the free option before purchasing: Many users suggest taking advantage of the free version of the software to get a feel for its functionality and suitability for their needs. This allows users to assess whether it meets their requirements before committing to a paid version.

  2. Considering other options like InfoBlox and Mice & Men: Some users suggest exploring alternative software options such as InfoBlox or Mice & Men. These alternatives may offer different features or better meet specific requirements, so users recommend comparing different solutions to find the best fit.

  3. Looking for bundle purchase with other products for a better deal: Reviewers mention that while the software itself can be pricey, they recommend exploring bundle purchases that include additional products or services. By bundling multiple products together, users may be able to secure a better deal or more cost-effective licensing options.

It is important to note that users also mention areas for improvement, such as inadequate support and resource-intensive nature of the software. However, these are not counted as among the three most common recommendations.

I have about 200 VLANs to maintain and SolarWinds IPAM is my sole tool to manage my network. It's got great search functions, auto-discovery, and sends notifications when a server reboots or doesn't start.
  • Helps with statically assigning IP addresses in my server farm.
  • Manages my DHCP and DNS servers.
  • Great reporting functions.
  • Not fond of the licensing features.
  • Slow to scan subnet.
It is well suited for mid and large enterprises that want a one-stop dashboard showing VLANs, percentage of available IP addresses, and understand the health of Windows-based servers. Deploying the agent to a server is very simple, thresholds can be set to alert users via email if certain conditions are met. IPAM connects to a Windows domain, making user management simple.
  • Helpful when expanding my network.
Ease of use and a clean dashboard. I've been a SolarWinds customer for a long time and have always been happy with their products.
Customer service techs are knowledgeable and generally fix any issues on the first call. I've used their assistance to upgrade from an old version to a newer version, I was pleased with the experience.

Pretty easy to use and support. I have a small team. I use Veeam to back up my virtual environment. I've never experienced any issues with the product itself, just a small learning curve.

SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM) is used throughout our company as the sole IP address management solution across all our departments. Many of our non-IT staff use it without any issues. Long gone are the days of having massive spreadsheets manually updated on shared network drives to manage IP subnet allocations.
  • Fluid subnet scanning and alerting.
  • Centralized DHCP and static IP address tracking.
  • Great integration with other SolarWinds Orion products.
  • The initial learning curve to administer it.
  • The interface can be clunky at times.
  • Without integration with other SolarWinds Orion products, you won't get the most out of IPAM.
IPAM is great as an Enterprise IP address management suite and allows a company to have a well-integrated product that staff both inside and outside of IT can use. IPAM integrates well into other SolarWinds Orion products allowing you to cross-reference data in powerful ways like tracking what port on a switch a host using a certain IP is connected to with User Device Tracker (UDT).
  • Improved efficiency by reducing the amount of time needed for documentation.
  • Automates common DHCP tasks, freeing up precious resources.
  • Allows for faster TTR by streamlining common IP address troubleshooting tasks.
